The Ozaukee County community is mourning the tragic loss of Darren Hess, 57, of West Bend, Wisconsin, who died following a fatal traffic accident on Thursday, February 5, 2026, in the Town of Cedarburg.

According to the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred on County Trunk Highway I (CTH I) just north of Cedar Creek Road. Darren Hess was identified as the driver of a 2018 Ram pickup truck involved in the incident. Emergency responders were dispatched promptly to the scene; however, despite life-saving efforts, Darren was pronounced deceased.

Following the crash, authorities temporarily closed both lanes of CTH I between Cedar Creek Road and Pleasant Valley Road for approximately four hours. The closure allowed investigators to carefully document the scene, gather evidence, and ensure public safety. The roadway reopened around 5:21 p.m. after the initial investigation was completed.
