Evan Gingo, 18, Dies in Devastating Interstate 79 Crash in Butler County
PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh community is mourning the tragic loss of Evan Gingo, 18, who died in a massive multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 79 in Butler County on Friday. The devastating pileup involved at least 25 vehicles and forced the closure of northbound and southbound lanes between Exit 78 and Exit 88 for several hours.
Authorities reported that rapidly changing winter weather contributed to the chain-reaction accident. Nine others were injured and transported to local hospitals. The Pennsylvania State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with cars, SUVs, and tractor-trailers scattered across icy, snow-covered roads. Wendy Graff, a driver in the area, recalled seeing vehicles spin out of control as brake lights flashed ahead.
Evan’s death marks the loss of a young life filled with promise. Family, friends, and the community are grieving the passing of a son, classmate, and friend whose future was tragically cut short.
Communities across western Pennsylvania are holding his loved ones in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
May Evan Gingo rest in peace.
